Is Google is going to merge Android and Chrome!?

The President of Engineering for Android mobile-operating system at Google was also appointed as the head of Chrome operating system. So there seems to be chances for the two operating systems to merge.

Google has been passing hints about the merging of the two operating systems. The appointment of Mr. Sundar Pichai as the new in-charge of the two operating systems, followed by Andy Rubin’s departure in 2013 was some of them. Now Mr. Hiroshi Lockheimer will manage both the operating systems under Mr. Pichai. According to sources, Lockheimer will be in charge of the Chrome operating system engineering team only. He will not be the in charge of Chrome browser, Chromebook or Chromecast teams.

At the Google Input-Output conference earlier this year, Google revealed Android apps would work naively in the Chrome operating system environment. Also, last month, a handful of Android apps became available in the Chrome store. Some reports say that since Mr. Lockheimer has reportedly been in charge of both engineering staffs, more integration and coordination between Chrome and Android will be observed.

"Android is used on more than 80 percent of mobile devices including smartphones and tablets.", according to a recent IDC report. The latest version of Android "Lollipop" will allow Google to branch out its Android operating system beyond smartphones and tablets. Car computers, televisions and wearable devices like- smart watches are the few areas where Android 5.0 operating system will be powered. The work of software makers will be now simplified after the merging of the two operating systems at Google because they have to create different versions of their apps for the two different platforms.
