Tutorial and Tips: How to Root Xiaomi Redmi 1S and Unroot it again

Xiaomi Redmi 1S is a entry level Android Smartphone having features like high end Smartphones. Redmi 1S proves to be milestone for Xiaomi Electronics. Here I will give you Step-By-Step guide to get root access to you Xiaomi Redmi 1S Smartphone. The process which we used to get root access is by flashing a zip file via recovery mode so that su binary file get installed, all the permissions are set and MIUI version of firmware is changed to activate the developer mode. This process is a manual process. If you don't know what is rooting then Google it.

CAUTION:
  • This is the safe process but I will not be responsible for any Data Loss or Bricked Devices while rooting. If you root your phone, it will may void the warranty of your Device.
  • Your phone will not notify about OTA updates after rooting.
  • You can update your phone by un-root it. 

 

Requirement:

  1. Stable version of MIUI ROM running on Redmi 1S.
  2. Developer option should be activated (Go to Setting > About Phone > Tap 5 times on Build number in one go).
  3. Stock MI-Recovery 2.0.1 should be installed on Redmi 1S. 
  4. Download  Update.zip file : Click Here
  5. Download  UnRootNative_Redmi1S.zip file : Click Here 

STEPS FOR ROOTING XIAOMI REDMI 1S:

  1. First download the file Update.zip from your PC as sometimes downloading zip file on mobile won't work.
  2. Now connect your Redmi 1S to your PC via USB cable.
  3. Copy Update.zip file to the Redmi 1S to the folder "Computer\HM 1S\Internal storage" (root of internal storage).
  4.  Remove your Redmi 1S from USB safely.
  5. On your Redmi 1S launch Updater App then press Menu/Option button and from menu select "Reboot to recovery mode" to reboot into Mi-recovery.
  6. Select and confirm English in Mi-recovery menu or select Chinese if you understand it.
  7. Now you will see Update.zip file is listed, select and confirm "Install Update.zip to system" this step take 1-2 min to complete.
  8. Reboot the phone by selecting Reboot option.
  9. After Redmi 1S is rebooted successfully go to Security > Permission and activate Root permission.
  10. Enjoy your Redmi 1S is rooted successfully. 
 

STEPS FOR UNROOTING XIAOMI REDMI 1S:

  1. Download the file UnRootNative_Redmi1S.zip from your PC as sometimes downloading zip file on mobile won't work.
  2. Now connect your Redmi 1S to your PC via USB cable.
  3. Copy UnRootNative_Redmi1S.zip file to the Redmi 1S to the folder "Computer\HM 1S\Internal storage" (root of internal storage).
  4.  Remove your Redmi 1S from USB safely.
  5. In your Redmi 1S go to Security > Permission and De-activate Root permission.
  6. Launch Updater App then press Menu/Option button and from menu select "Reboot to recovery mode" to reboot into Mi-recovery.
  7. Select and confirm English in Mi-recovery menu or select Chinese if you understand it.
  8. Now you will see UnRootNative_Redmi1S.zip file is listed, select and confirm "Install Update.zip to system" this step take 1-2 min to complete.
  9. Reboot the phone by selecting Reboot option.
  10. Enjoy your Redmi 1S is un-rooted successfully.
